The rocky Barren Islands are a group of 6 small islands in the Gulf of Alaska between Kenai Peninsula and Afognak Island at the mouth of Cook Inlet. The largest island is Ushagat which rises to 1,495 ft/456 m. The Islands are home to one of the Gulf of Alaska's largest populations of nesting seabirds on East Amatuli and Nord islands. The East Amatuli Island seabird colonies support 18 species including common murres, black legged kittiwakes, and tufted puffins.
