Battle Harbor - Canada, Labrador Highlights:
Restored 1800s buildings
Battle Harbour, a restored fishing community that commemorates life on Labrador over the past three centuries, lies on the south east coast of Labrador. One of the oldest British settlements in Newfoundland, Battle Harbour was a favorite port for whalers and fishermen. It was also the most northerly wireless station at the time of Robert Peary's expedition to the North Pole and the location from which he transmitted his famous declaration, "The Pole is ours." Now a National Historic District, the town boasts numerous re-stored structures, displaying more than 500 artifacts. Its waters abound with humpback, fin, and blue whales at this time of year.
