Bransfield Strait - Antarctica Highlights:
South Shetland Islands
The Bransfield Strait separates the South Shetlands archipelago from the Antarctic Peninsula. The islands stretch for 540 km (335miles) from northeast to southwest. In the 1820s sealers swept the islands' beaches of seals. When the market collapsed, the sealers retreated, and, over the course of time, the seals recovered.
