Cape York is a mountainous, ice-covered point of land that extends into Baffin Bay. The cape is on the northwest coast of Greenland, well north of the Arctic Circle and is now deserted but was once the venue for early contact between Europeans and Inuit natives. Admiral Robert E. Peary used it as a base for many of his explorations around the North Pole. Peary's party discovered huge meteorites there, the largest weighing about 34 tons on what is now known as Meteor Island. Here you will find the little village of Savissivik. Nearby on the mainland is the town of Dundas and the American Thule Air Base.
