Catskill is a town in New York state on the banks of the Hudson River. The area of the town was purchased from the natives for some trinkets in 1678 and settlement followed. The town was established in 1788 and has unique shops on Main Street. You can admire the view of the Hudson from Catskill Point or take a tour of the Thomas Cole House, where the founder of the famed Hudson River School of Painting lived and worked. Also worth a visit is Olana, the elegant mansion home of Frederic Edwin Church, another Hudson River School painter.
