Concarneau is an important fishing port on the southwestern coast of Brittany, south of Quimper that is also a resort. It has a small fortified old city called Ville Close on a rocky island just offshore. Founded as a priory in the 7th century, it has ramparts that were completed in the 17th century. The Musee de la Peche provides a local history of the importance of fishing in Brittany.
