Corvo Island - Azores, Portugal Highlights:
Vila Nova, Caldera, Windmills
Corvo is the smallest island in the Azores. Corvo is 10 miles north of Flores and has a population of approximately 300 inhabitants concentrated in the town of Vila Nova. This picturesque town is composed of narrow streets locally called canadas. The most prominent building is the Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Milagres or Our Lady of Miracles Church (patron saint of the island), wich was built during the 16th century using the Flemish design from Malines.

From Monte Grosso, the highest mountain on the island with an altitude of 770 meters, you get an extraordinary view overlooking the Caldera. This vast crater, 300 meters deep with a perimeter of 3.4 km, is the remains of the now extinct volcano from which the island originated. Along the coast there are interesting cliffs at Cavaleiro and Marco and a series of small windmills constructed from black stone and fitted with triangular cloth sails.

There are no cruises currently listed for this port of call.
