Dingle - Ireland Highlights:
Colourful fishing town, Dingle Peninsula
Dingle is a town in County Kerry in the south west of Ireland located on the Dingle Peninsula, one of the most westerly points in Ireland. Overlooking Dingle Bay on the Atlantic Ocean it is a fishing community and holiday resort, used especially as a base for exploring the Dingle Peninsula, which is noted for its scenic beauty and prehistoric remains. Within its small compass it has many interesting antiquities, historic sites, a large number of ancient stone monuments and varied mountain scenery than any other part of Ireland. The combination of rugged mountains, craggy cliffs and long sandy beaches brought David Lean here to film "Ryan's Daughter" in 1970. More recently, the Tom Cruise film "Far and Away" was made in the Slea Head area.

Dingle has a large natural enclodes harbour and was the main port of Kerry in the 14th and 15th centuries. Later, smugglers brought prosperity to the town, which began to mint its own currency. Dingle hosts an annual cultural festival.
