Douala is the main port of Cameroon, situated on the southeastern shore of the Wouri River estuary, on the Atlantic coast about 130 miles (210 km) west of Yaounde. Douala is the largest city in Cameroon and has a mix of traditional, colonial, and modern architecture, mixing modern residential areas with shanty towns. There is a maritime museum, a handicraft centre dedicated to Cameroonian art, the Cathedral Saints Pierre and Paul, the central market and the palace of Prince Dicka Akwa.
Outside the city you can visit the mountainside town of Buea via Limbe, about one and half hours from Douala's city centre. Buea is perhaps the highest village on Mt. Cameroon, and has some German architectural influences.
