Dundas, formerly called Thule and also the Eskimo settlement of Umanak (Umánaq), lies on Cape Atholl and the southern shore of Wolstenholme Fjord, an inlet of Baffin Bay in the north western Greenland. It is now a major U.S. air base and communications centre. Dundas Village, at the base of the mountain Dundas closed down in 1985 and nowadays nobody lives in this settlement. You can still have an opportunity to go ashore and take a walk in the old settlement and see the remains of Knud Rasmussen's old trading post.
The region was explored (1912–24) by the expeditions of Knud Rasmussen, who brought in polar Eskimo and founded the original settlement of Umanak in 1910.
