Dunk Island lies to the south of Cairns only 4.5km off the coast. It is one of the islands of the Great Barrier Reef and has walking tracks through the rainforest and good beaches. There is a resort on the island with good facilities but the island is mainly noted for its prolific birdlife and many butterflies. To the south of Dunk Island are the seven tiny Family islands, five of which are national parks.
