Egum Atoll (Egum Reef) is a large reef formation measuring 33 km by 20 km, located 50 km southwest of the Woodlark Islands and 82 km northeast of Normanby Island near the Trobriand Islands. Egum Rock rises in the middle of the sea from a depth of 600-700 metres to 30 metres above the surface of the water. Practically round in shape, it has a diameter of about 50 metres. There is a small sandy beach and various species of birds nest in the branches of the trees growing on its surface, including some large birds of prey. A diver's paradise the reef is home to a plethora of marine life from dolphins and sharks, to tuna and sweetlips.
