After Crete Evvia (Evia or Evvoia) is the second largest island in Greece. It is located along the east coast of mainland Greece, not far from Athens. Less touristy than most of the islands, it is still worth a vist. The picturesque fishing village of Limni, located on the northwest coast is full of narrow streets lined with white houses and has splendid beaches. Visit the Convent of Saint Nicholas situated on Mount Kandhili. Rebuilt many times since its original foundation, the convent retains a 13th-century tower as well as 16th-century frescoes. Also worth visting are Loutra Aidiposou, an old fashioned resort with warm spa waters, and Karystos, overloked by the dramatic slopes of Mount Ochi.
