The small town of Exmouth lies on the North West Cape of Western Australia over 700 miles north of Perth. Close by is Pebbly Beach, a safe swimming beach covered in colourful pebbles. There is a wreck dating from 1907 that can be seen at the tip of the Cape and the Vlaming Head Lighthouse further round the cape has excellent views from its hilltop setting. Further afield you can visit the Cape Range National Park, Yardie Creek and the northern end of Ningaloo Reef, a mini version of the Great Barrier Reef that is much more accessible.
Exmouth was founded in 1967 as a service centre for the large US navy communications base but has developed into a tourist resort.
