Figueira da Foz is located at the mouth of the Mondego river, 40 km west of Coimbra, and sheltered by the hills of Serra da Boa Viagem. It has several beaches, summer and seaport facilities on the Atlantic Ocean coast. It is a legal gambling zone - one of the biggest casinos on the Iberian Peninsula (the Casino Peninsular) can be found here. From Figueira you can visit the historic city of Coimbra.
The town has some sights like the Sotto Mayor Palace, the old fishing village of Buarcos, several beaches and a large seaside promenade paved with typical Portuguese pavement.
