Finnabotn lies at the head of the distinctive Finnafjord on the south bank of the Sognefjord. The smallest of the fjord branches, it is perhaps also the most beautiful - the mountains are steep and the scenery is spectacular. The famous cheese-maker Synnove Finden was born and brought up beside this lovely fjord. The only way you can get to the isolated hamlet of Finnabotn is by boat. At the entrance to the Finnafjord at Finden there is a narrow strait where you can get a practical demonstration how a fjord system functions with the passing tidal currents.
