Fort San Lorenzo - Panama Highlights:
UNESCO World Heritage Site
The historical ruins of Fort San Lorenzo.and abandoned village of Chagres are located about 8 miles (13 km) west of Colon, on a promontory overlooking the mouth of the Chagres River. Chagres was once the chief Atlantic port on the isthmus of Panama, Fort San Lorenzo is one of the oldest Spanish fortresses in America, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 1500’s to overlook the mouth of the Chagres, Panama’s largest and most valuable river, the fort provided an excellent view of approaching pirates and buccaneers.

Nearby you can visit the impressive Observation Centre of the Panama Canal Expansion project. This new observation centre offers an exclusive panoramic view of the Panama Canal expansion.
