Lake Huron Beaches, Town Square, Theatre
Goderich was established by the Canada Company, a private venture that was instrumental in the colonization of Upper Canada (now Ontario Province), organized in 1825 by the British novelist John Galt; it continued in existence until the 1950s. The company, which received a royal charter in 1826, played an important part in the settlement of southern Ontario between Lakes Ontario and Huron, where large tracts of land were cleared and many English and Scottish settlers established farms.
