Grand Manan Island is the largest of the Fundy Isles and lies to the south of Campobello Island off the coast of Maine, USA. This peaceful island has spectacular coastal cliffs, good birdwatching and sandy beaches. At North Head there is a ferry terminal and the Whale and Sea Bird Research Station with interesting exhibits. The hiking is excellent and there are lots of trails. Ancient rock formations along the coast are billions of year old and the suspension bridge out to the lighthouse at Swallow Tail is exciting. Grand Harbour on the east coast is home to the Grand Manan Museum while Dark Harbour, the only village on the west coast, is centre of the dulce (edible seaweed) industry.
