Hamaroy in Nordland county, on the eastside of the Vestfjord, between Fauske and Narvik. Where the writer Knut Hamsun lived with his uncle for almost six years during his childhood, and which he describes so well in his short story "A Ghost": Several places at Hamaroy are directly linked to Hamsun's life. The small family home in Hamsund, the ruins of the parsonage at Glimma where he "suffered" as his uncle's little helper and Tranoy where he experienced the hustle and bustle of the marketplace. A more real impression of the times when Hamsun grew up can be experienced at the Knut Hamsun Museum.
